I love this recipe because it’s a quick and delicious way to satisfy my stir-fry cravings, blending juicy beef with vibrant, crunchy veggies in a savory sauce. Plus, it’s perfect for those busy weeknights when I need a satisfying meal that comes together in no time and makes me feel like a true home chef.
Savor the delightful journey of flavor in my Delicioso Stir Fry De Carne. I absolutely adore the combination of thinly sliced beef sirloin, red and green bell peppers, and just the right amount of soy and oyster sauces.
Although this dish was more of a treat in Colombia, I’ve made it a staple here in the States. With a few alterations, I now serve this colorful and vitamin-packed dish to friends and family all the time.

Oyster Sauce:
Intensifies umami flavors; bolsters gravy.
Cornstarch:
Agent thickening; gives a saucy texture.
Ingredient Quantities
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sliced green onions for garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, blend the cornstarch and water to form a slurry; set it aside for later use.
2. In a large skillet or wok, over medium-high heat, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
3. Put the beef strips into the skillet, and season them with salt and pepper. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the beef browns and cooks through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
4. In the same skillet, add the last tablespoon of oil.
5. Stir-fry the onions for approximately 1 minute, or just until they start to soften.
6. In the skillet, stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the tender-crisp vegetables are red and green bell peppers.
7. The vegetables should have the minced garlic added to them and be stir-fried for just 30 seconds. The goal here is to get the garlic fragrant without cooking it long enough to brown.
8. Put the beef back into the skillet and mix it with the vegetables.
9. Combine the soy sauce and oyster sauce with the beef and vegetables in the following manner: Pour them over the beef and vegetables and mix well. The direction “stirring well to coat everything evenly” is omitted, as it is implied in the above.
10. Add the cornstarch mixture to the skillet, stirring constantly until the sauce is thickened, about 1-2 minutes. If you want, you can garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds; otherwise, you might want to eat it as is, with some hot rice.

Substitutions and Variations
1 pound chicken breast, cut into thin slices (beef sirloin may be substituted)
Olive oil, 2 tablespoons (this is a substitute for vegetable oil).
One yellow bell pepper, sliced thinly (this will work as a substitute for red or green bell pepper).
2 tablespoons tamari (a gluten-free substitute for soy sauce)
1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce (a substitute for oyster sauce)
1 tablespoon arrowroot powder (a substitute for cornstarch)
Pro Tips
1. Marinate the Beef For added flavor, marinate the beef in soy sauce, a little bit of oil, and a pinch of sugar for about 30 minutes before cooking. This will help tenderize the beef and enhance the overall taste.
2. High Heat for Stir-Frying Ensure your skillet or wok is hot before adding the beef and vegetables. High heat is crucial for a good stir-fry; it helps in achieving that nice sear on the meat and keeping the vegetables crisp.
3. Slice Ingredients Uniformly Make sure to slice the beef and vegetables as uniformly as possible. This ensures even cooking and a better texture in the finished dish.
4. Don’t Overcrowd the Pan If your skillet or wok is not large enough, cook the beef and vegetables in batches to avoid overcrowding. This helps maintain high heat, which is essential for proper browning and cooking.
5. Deglaze for Flavor After cooking the beef, deglaze the pan with a splash of water or broth before cooking the vegetables. This step will help lift the flavorful bits stuck at the bottom of the pan, enhancing the overall taste of the dish.
